How Safe is California Water?

You may think your California water is safe … but there are probably some things you don’t know! Is your water up to standard?

The “toxic taps”

Back in 2019 in Compton, there was a huge problem with a water treatment facility. It was revealed that mustard gas was being used to treat water that was sent to almost 7,000 households. Because of similar issues coming to light, this has become known as the “toxic taps” crisis. Over 300 California public water systems all over the state have been identified as having some sort of problem with public safety compliance. Now, these problems aren’t as bad as the use of mustard gas to treat the water, but instead come down to issues with the quality of the water system infrastructure. Untrained staff, outdated equipment, and chemical thresholds above safe limits are all problems.

Chemicals in tap water

In a recent analysis, tap water from all over Los Angeles was tested by the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. They found arsenic levels, chromium levels, and acid disinfectant levels all significantly above their own recommended limits – the levels are all still legal according to the U.S. government regulations, but that doesn’t mean the water is particularly safe to drink over a period of months and years.

What you can do in your Santa Ana home

Now, we want to emphasize that there is no such thing as water that is completely free of any kind of chemicals. But, if you are really concerned about the quality of your Santa Ana home’s water, installing a reverse osmosis filtration system should go a long way toward reducing or even eliminating many dangerous chemicals that can be found in your household’s tap water supply. Reverse osmosis works by using a membrane to filter out impurities. Here at Dial One Sonshine, we offer reverse osmosis water filtration systems, and also carbon-based filters that are ionically charged to remove contaminants. A water filtration system is the best way to remove the trace amounts of arsenic and chromium from your water!
