A heat pump can be THREE TIMES more efficient than other heating and cooling systems! Learn more about how you can save:
What is a heat pump?
The first question you might be asking is, what is a heat pump, and how is it different from a typical furnace and air conditioner?
Well, to make things simple, a heat pump operates very differently from the typical furnace, but similarly to an air conditioner.
A furnace requires energy to create warmth and to heat your home’s air. Whereas, an air conditioner doesn’t actually generate cold to cool your home’s air, the way a lot of people think it does. Instead, an air conditioner actually takes heat from inside your home, and removes it. A heat pump works the same way. It is able to extract heat from the air, whether that is drawing warmth from outdoor air and bringing it inside in winter, or removing heat from inside your home in the summer. In fact, a heat pump is able to heat water too — and it’s three times more efficient than a conventional water heater!
Basically, a heat pump is really good at soaking up heat, and that’s what makes it so much more efficient than a typical heating and cooling system. Instead of having a wasteful, dirty, expensive, polluting furnace, you can just extract heat from outdoors! And in the summer, the heat pump works just like an air conditioner. Way to eliminate unnecessary steps, and be more energy-efficient and cost-effective!
Will my heat pump actually work?
Maybe you’re understandably a little suspicious of this claim that heat pumps are three times as efficient as your current furnace and air conditioner setup. After all, if the heat pump is like a sponge absorbing heat, what if there is no heat outdoors for the heat pump to absorb?
Well, it’s true that when temperatures go below freezing, the heat pump starts to lose efficiency, until it stops working completely at about -13 degrees Fahrenheit. But … chances that will happen here in Santa Ana? Absolute zero!
Among all the heat pump advantages, the main one is you get both cooling and heating with the heat pump. It provides high-efficiency cooling in the summer, and efficient heating in the winter. To warm your home, a reversing valve in the heat pump switches the flow of refrigerant.
